Role
As the Project Lead, I assembled a team of designers, engineers, scientists, account managers, content developers and marketers to build the Healthy Minds Coach (HMC) from conception to launch. I initially oversaw content production and program development. Midway into the project, we lost our Head of Design and Co-Lead, so I stepped up to run UX research, UI design, rapid prototyping, development, deployment, and reporting for the Coach.

Goal
Increase engagement in a workplace wellbeing program adapted for non-profit employees.
The Challenge
In September of 2021, the Ho Foundation granted HMI $750K to adapt of our workplace wellbeing solution for nonprofit workers. I was named Co-Lead of a grant. Recognizing the cross-functional complexity I immediately implemented OKRs (for the first time in our organization) to keep us aligned and on-track. We then dove into UX research to better understand our target audience’s pain points. We surveyed employees, HR representatives, and C-suite leadership.
Need for Web-Based Personalization
Our research revealed two things:
1. A need for a web-based program accessible to employees on any device.
2. Demand for community-based, short (60 seconds or less) activities that could be championed across the organization by ambassadors and early adopters.
We began building the Healthy Minds Coach platform. I, along with our Lead Trainer, used the transtheoretical model of behavior change to build a personalized, team-centered curriculum using video, audio, and text to meet individual stages of readiness. I crafted a comprehensive informational architecture to bridge the gap between design intent and technical integration.

Transition into Product Design Leadership
Then, my Co-Lead and Head of Design left the organization, so I took over managing the UI design, prototying, platform development. We quickly developed a MVP using a card UI paradigm to optimize for personalization through content atomization and the seamless integration of research measures.

Delivering Results
UX testing revealed content navigation confusion, unintuitive signifiers, and no sense of accomplishment throughout the journey. In response, we pivoted to a conversational UI to enhance intuitive navigation and future-proof our platform for the eventual implementation of an AI companion.
Our successful launch of the program, delivered to early childhood educators, increased 7 and 21 day retention rates by 12% and 15% respectively, compared to our app-based @Work program delived to the same organization.
